Stretch Beyond

Stretch Beyond was created over 20 years ago by Jocelyn Dill who was a Physical Education teacher in MSAD 71 at that time.  It is an after-school enrichment program that offers a wide variety of classes in which RSU21 district students in grades 1-5 can be involved. Students choose their areas of interest and sign up for classes  which are available Monday through Thursday throughout the school year in six week sessions.  Most classes run from after school to 4:00 although some may run longer. Classes for grades 1-5 are held at KES and sometimes off-campus, such as at GymNation. Students from SRS are bussed to KES on bus #31.  A few classes are open to Kindergarten children.

We partner with local organizations such as the Animal Welfare Society, Brick Store Museum, Wells Reserve, Goodall Hospital, Mad Science of Maine/New Hampshire, Kennebunk High School, The New School, GymNation, and others to help broaden our spectrum of class offerings.  Instructors also include school district staff, community members, and parents, as well as high school students. Most instructors are paid; however, many high school students teach a class for community service hours towards graduation from high school.

Homework Help:   Homework is offered at no cost. This class offers a quiet time to get homework/projects/book reports done without noise. The teacher is available to help with work if needed.

                            Healthy Kids Club (HKC)

(A program dedicated to teaching children how to live a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, teamwork, nutritious snacks, and a variety of activities including arts/crafts, games, cooking, nature studies, and many more. We have so much to do in so little time!!)

HEALTHY KIDS CLUB (HKC) runs parallel to Stretch Beyond and is part of the Stretch Beyond program.  Both programs are funded totally by registration fees. HKC is designed to meet the needs of parents needing after school care later than 4:00 p.m., when Stretch Beyond classes end, and runs from 2:45 until 5:30 p.m.   This program is available five afternoons a week but parents must commit to two afternoons per week. This is for grades K-5 and is housed at KES.  Students who wish to attend Stretch Beyond classes may join their HKC group after the class.  Children are placed in age-appropriate groups. Fourth and fifth grade students are  bussed to KES.  If you are interested in obtaining a packet of information, please email jwilson@rsu21.net or call 207-985-6800.  For parents who have children enrolled, you may reach the HKC classrooms by calling our cell number 207-608-1272 after 3:00 p.m.

Early Release Wednesdays For HKC

On Early Release Wednesdays, we will do a variety of activities from noon to 3:00 p.m. including bowling at Sanford's Bowl-A-Rama, apple picking, and other fun field trips.  There is an extra charge for those activities.  The program will continue on until 5:30 p.m. as usual on those days.  Children enrolled in HKC on Wednesdays are welcome to join us!

Employment Available:
Are you interested in sharing your talent and skills with kids in kindergarten through fifth grades by leading a class in Stretch Beyond? The year’s five sessions are divided into six-week periods. Each class is one hour per week (3:00-4:00 p.m.). There is pay for the positions or community service for high school volunteers. We are looking for a wide variety of interesting and fun courses for the kids that might include hobbies, skills, music, collecting, cooking, foreign languages and any other ideas.

If you would like to work in the Healthy Kids Club on a less regular basis as a sub or as an instructor of health-based topics or as an instructor of your special skill or craft, please let us know!  We are always looking for fun ways to interest the children in leading a healthy lifestyle!

Interested in working in a fun environment?  Call Jackie Wilson at 207-985-6800 or email jwilson@rsu21.net
