About SRS
Welcome to Sea Road School! Affectionately referred to as SRS, our school is a unique and prestigious intermediate elementary school located in the seaside community of Kennebunk, Maine. Serving over 300 third, fourth, and fifth-grade students, as one of four elementary schools in Regional School Unit 21, SRS’s long record of excellence fosters curiosity, responsibility, and compassion. Strengths are celebrated, and individual affinities are nurtured. SRS is a place where each student can find success, focusing on personal goals while also functioning as an important member of a larger school community.
A diverse range of experiences and opportunities for students and staff highlight the inclusivity of our learning community. By providing a safe, nurturing environment that supports and encourages the intellectual, social, and emotional development of all students, we are able to maintain a positive atmosphere and a shared responsibility for growth. 1:1 Chromebook access and interactive whiteboards in each room help our classroom teachers deliver engaging lessons in literacy, math, science, and social studies. In addition, all students attend weekly Allied Arts classes, which include art, music, physical education, library, STEM, and Spanish. Learning opportunities are aligned to 21st-century learning standards and are designed to teach students essential skills and knowledge that will help them become productive global citizens.
SRS also offers a number of other educational experiences and enrichment activities for students. Our fourth and fifth graders can join our instrumental music program, while all students are invited to join the SRS Kids Chorus. Our Student Council and Civil Rights Team cultivate leadership and citizenship, and our Cross-Country Team promotes personal health and wellness. Students may also decide to participate in the Newspaper Club, our Positivity Club or on the SRS Math Team, which help develop fundamental skills in collaboration and critical thinking.
Sea Road School strives to achieve high academic results, while still fostering a culture of learning that is characterized by caring for one another and connecting with the community. Not only were we named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2016, but each year our students perform well above the state average on the Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. Our NWEA assessment data shows that SRS students score above national norms of performance each year. There are a variety of services and supports in place to promote the growth of all students at SRS, including Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS), guidance and social work services, and Special Education programming.
Our community of learners is also fortunate to receive support from the SRS Parent Teacher Association and the Education Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel. These organizations fund field trips, artists-in-residence, special events, and academic resources and programs throughout the year.
